1) Explain a bit about who you are and what it is you do as a wedding planner.

My name is Katy and I am the owner of Wedding Dreams Décor. I am a fully functioning Wedding/Event decorator and planner. I work with many venues and vendors in Durham Region/GTA areas and beyond. Once you have decided where your dream wedding will be held, the fun begins! Every bride has a different style and vision of what they want their wedding to look like. Everything from ceiling treatments, backdrops, head tables, sign in table, gift table, linens, chair covers, center pieces, to all rentals such as upgraded chairs, full table settings, floral, and much more. I make custom packages for every bride and groom to fit within their style and budget. My company is a one-stop shop for your entire wedding look!

Another service I provide is Wedding Planning. The most common planning service is called “Month of Coordination” or a “Day Of Planner”. This service is for those who have planned everything themselves and need someone to help finalize the details and be there to coordinate the actual wedding day. This includes going over the timeline, contacting all of the hired vendors, and being there through the entire event to make sure everything runs smoothly, on time, and helps the needs of the guests.

I also offer “Full Coordination”, this service is for couples who would like a wedding coordinator working with them throughout the entire wedding planning process.

2) Where should brides go to look for a wedding planner that is right for them?

Here are a few steps on hiring a wedding planner.

Do your research – look into wedding planners in your area, or I find asking around (word of mouth) is a huge help.

Look up their website/social media accounts and read their testimonials.

Contact them and set up a meeting. You want to make sure you connect and feel comfortable with your planner. They are a huge part of your wedding and you will be in contact with them a lot over the months of your wedding planning.

Ask them for some referrals you can contact

Compare them to another planner to make sure you are happy with your pick.

3) What is the average cost of a wedding planner? How can a wedding planner help you stay within your budget?

Cost for wedding planners do range depending on area and budget of the wedding. The Day of Coordinator can range anywhere from $800-$1500+ in the Durham Region/GTA Areas. When it comes to Full Coordination there are different ways of charging. Some Planners will charge 10-15% of the overall wedding budget when others have a flat fee. The flat fee can range anywhere from $3500-$10,000+ based on the area and experience of the planner.

5) What are the popular wedding themes and trends this year? How can the NV Experts help to make this vision come to life?

I am so excited for the 2019 trends! When it comes to colours, expect to see lots of deep colours; deep purples, navy, merlot, champagne and greenery. Themes that will be popular is bringing nature inside (the “woodsy” look), tailored greenery, candles and exposed wood. Mismatched will been seen throughout the 2019 wedding season, whether it be with the bridesmaid’s dresses, groomsmen’s suits and place settings.

Some trends with the planning aspect of 2019 weddings are; First looks are becoming more popular, unplugged ceremonies, and drones/videography. A lot of wedding traditions are being taken out fully; for example, bouquet toss, garter toss, cake cutting and bride and groom kissing games.

6) What is the most unique wedding you have ever planned? How can the NV Experts help to make this vision come to life?

I have been decorating weddings for 12 years now and I find every wedding is so unique in its own way. Working with the bride and groom to capture their vision, personalities, love and interested and tie it all into one day is challenging but also so much fun. I have had some unique themes, for instance; Harry Potter, Toronto Maple Leafs, Halloween, and Dark and Wilted. Listen to what your bride and groom envision, what they are passionate about and what they want their day to look like. It may not be your style, but it’s their day and if they are happy you have done your job right.

7) What is the best overall advice you can give to a bride-to-be?

I give brides the same advice every time. Enjoy every minute of your wedding! This includes the planning, the events leading up to the big day, the preparation and the time spent with your friends, family and soon to be spouse. If you feel stressed hire additional help, we are the professionals and our main goal is that you enjoy the entire experience of your wedding. Your wedding will honestly be one of your best days ever and you will look back on it for years to come!
